ANNOUNCEMENTS

Research to over 250 separate employers has found that around 1,500 Canberrans are
employed in the renewables and smart energy industry.

“Canberra is the renewable energy capital of Australia,” said John Grimes, Chief Executive of
the Smart Energy Council, manager of the ACT Renewables Hub.

“Whilst there are a large number of public service jobs in Canberra, the private sector is
thriving with diverse jobs across the renewables industry.”

“The ACT Government’s leadership in delivering 100% renewables to the Canberra
community is delivering jobs, investment and business opportunities.”

The ACT Renewables Hub with support from the ACT Government and Austrade is undertaking major research on global opportunities for local renewable businesses.

This is an initiative aimed at supporting interested businesses within the ACT Renewables Ecosystem to have a clear pathway to international trade.

The research will start by building a map of where the ACT Renewables Industry stands in terms of foreign trade.

Based on the results of the survey, we will be able to qualify and quantify the strengths and weaknesses of our local industry. In addition, it will help us provide guidance to all export-ready organisations or those interested in becoming so.
